# Intro to Mass Spectrometry --> an "electron" gun is used to knock electrons off atoms and give them a momentum. This sends them in one direction. In time, a large magnet is used to "bend" the atom, which then accelerates the atom into a detector at the end of the L-shaped tube. This deflection varies with the *electronegativity* - the intrinsic charge of the atom, diagrams coming soon!
