# Intro - The Leftovers
With each collision between large protoplanets so common in the early Solar System, remnant material spouted out into the debris disk surrounding the Sun. Much of this material would be lost to interstellar space, having been ejected fast enough to escape the Sun's gravitational pull. The remainder of this material, instead, collected in 'belts' or lagrange points; being too small to clump together.
These objects, depending on their compositions, are known as **Asteroids** or **Comets**.
Sometimes, when they hit our atmosphere, they burn up - leaving behind a brilliant, burning trail of a meteor:
